Okay, a little about me:

My name is Jean Patton. I started working from home in 2003 as Mike and I decided we needed more help with Mike’s painting business. As business was picking up, Mike needed some help since he was either on a job himself or running around doing estimates.

As you probably know, following up with a prospect is one of the most important aspects of any business. He is of the mindset that if he doesn’t return a prospects call within 24 hours, there is a good chance he had already lost that person as a possible customer.

Mike asked me if I would be interested in the tasks that often consumed a lot of his time like writing or invoices, contracts, returning customer’s phone calls, scheduling appointments for estimates and the actual job start dates.

Since my background is in office work for about 16 years, I knew this new stage of our relationship would be a win/win. I had always dreamed I could be at home multi-tasking while at my desk working for someone else. Never thought it would actually happen, though!

Before going out to work full-time 16 years ago, I was a stay-at-home-mom, (SAHM, as they call it now). I have two daughters. Jennifer who is now 31 and has 3 boys of her own and 2 step children.. and Amanda who is 20 - no kids yet, harray! Even back then, I knew how lucky I was to be able to actually see my daughters grow and participate in whatever their activities were. That was very important to me. I went to work part-time once Jennifer started school full time so that I could be there to put her on the bus and when she returned in the afternoon.

When Amanda was around 3 years old, I had become a single parent and those great days of being available was not in the cards for me. So, I’ve experienced both worlds and honestly, I prefer the first especially when my children are involved.

Back to my boomer years, I had the office pretty organized and found myself with time on my hands - not a really great thing for me! Reading online magazines or ezines, I stumbled upon an article in one introducing a new company that made all natural wax candles and all natural bath & body products.

For about the next week or two, I searched the net about this women the company and the opportunity she spoke about. Ended up ordering from her and when I received the products, I have to say, I was very impressed with the candles and the soy bath bar I also ordered.

It was the candle that dumbfounded me though. It burned so clean! You know, none of that black stuff on the jar? For me, it was like some magical thing or something. Understand, I had never heard of Soy Candles. And no, I don’t live in a sheltered world. I just never heard of them. On top of that, the smell was out of this world. Even Mike was impressed and you would have to know him. He’s not impressed easily.

Needless to say, I/we signed up. I think it was about a week later with the monthly program. About a week after that, I ordered my Fast Start Pack because I wanted to tell everybody about this!

My second order gave me LOTS of product and a shoulder bag that I could just pop in my trunk, it was convenient (saved me from buying stock) and I had 80 fragrance samples in that bag for showing off my new candle business.

It’s been a lot of fun, hard work. As much experience that I had with the computer, I still wasn’t all that familiar with the .com world. I didn’t even know what a domain name was to give you a little insight to my lack of knowledge.

This team and company gets all the credit for the knowledge that I’ve acquired over the last 4 years. Again, I’ve been pretty lucky and I am very well aware of the gifts that I have received.

One of the things that I’ve learned that has become very important to me is learning that once I chose to become an independent business owner, that anyone that I am blessed with that joins me, it’s abuot them.

It’s about offering them the same tools and education that I have been so enthusiastically given and continue to receive.

The dedication of those before me committed to offering me a chance to become anything I wanted to become, is invaluable.

Deb, Jackie, Charlie… it would be impossible for me to name everyone because the entire team all chip in to offer their own gifts. So, the whole company “family” deserves a great big THANK YOU from me.

They have taught me the importance and value of giving back.

It’s been my intention to give you a snap-shop of me, my values and gratitude for this opportunity and I sure hope I’ve succeeded. If you would like to follow my team and I as we continue to grow and learn, stop back from time to time to see what we are up to, leave a comment and don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like. I promise I won’t bite and anything you share with me will always stay confidential. That has always been one of my assets that I value.

Please come back and I look forward to getting to know you, too.

Warmly,

Jean
